Blog #2: Ethics And Other Stuff

We recently completed our ethics in engineering unit. What surprised me was just how avoidable some of these accidents were. I was also concerned with how little action those in authority took, even when the problem was reported. I always assumed there were very strict regulations in place, and even when that was the case for some of these, they were often ignored. For our case study, the Surfside Condo Collapse, the building was visibly decaying and multiple residents had reported damage. Yet those in charge took no action to fix the problem.

My life has been relatively uninteresting lately. The main event (as always) is rapidly increasing stress around writing college essays. I was planning to apply to MIT and Caltech early action, which I thought meant I had to write about 10 short answer questions before November 1. Caltech also decided to change their essay prompts for the first time in several years, so I had to come up with new ideas (luckily I had only brainstormed, and hadn't yet started writing). MIT had one extra prompt hidden in their application that wasn't on their website. And I found out that two other schools on my list that I was planning to apply to RD require you to apply early in order to qualify for scholarships. They each have supplements as well, so my workload has been increased significantly. And of course...

I haven't started. :(

In other news, the CAD Classes I'm running with fellow PLTW student Kim Hansen started on Wednesday, and we had a great first class! I'm excited to start diving into teaching our students 3D modeling!
